The structure of the Government: Government of the Czech Republic

The government of Czech Republic is the central executive organ of the country. The head of the Czech Republic’s government is the current prime minister Jiří Paroubek (Social Democratic Party - ČSSD). Apart from the prime minister, the current government of the Czech Republic counts 17 members. 15 of the Czech Republic government’s ministers are heading following ministries:

In addition, the government of the Czech Republic includes one minister without portfolio and one vice chairman of economy affairs.

The Office of the Government of the Czech Republic (Úřad vlády ČR) coordinates between the prime minister’s work to the work of the ministers and their departments, government councils and committees.

The official head of the state in the Czech Republic is the president, elected once in 5 years. The president of the Czech Republic holds some special prerogatives, including the right to nominate Constitutional Court judges, dissolve parliament under certain conditions, and enact a veto on legislation. The current President of the Czech Republic is Václav Klaus (ODS), elected on February 28, 2003.
